Professional Bio

Dr. David J. Wimer received a master’s degree in social psychology from Miami University in 2003 and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The University of Akron in 2009. After completing his Ph.D. he did a post-doctoral internship for Pennsylvania Counseling Services at their Reading Psychiatry clinic and became a licensed psychotherapist in 2010; he has maintained an active psychotherapy license ever since. Dr. Wimer also served as a psychologist (73B) in the U.S. Army Medical Corps Reserves, where his main duty was to provide mental health training for enlisted soldiers. Dr. Wimer’s primary area of research expertise is the psychology of men and masculinities (Division 51 of APA). He has published several articles and book chapters on the subject and created a World Campus senior seminar on the topic as well.
