Professional Bio

Carlos is a second-year doctoral student in the Developmental Psychology program, pursuing a dual-title degree in Social Data Analytics (SoDA), working with Dr. Dawn Witherspoon in the Context and Development Lab. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Swarthmore College. He previously served as a lab manager in Dr. Amanda Tarullo’s Brain and Early Experiences Lab at Boston University, where he coordinated a multi-site, longitudinal, randomized controlled trial with low-income English- and Spanish-speaking families. His research examines how adolescents' networks of social capital shape resilience, psychological well-being, and academic outcomes in contexts of socioeconomic and structural disadvantage. He is particularly interested in how cultural values, neighborhood contexts, and relationship quality condition the effectiveness of support, and how these processes can be leveraged to reduce inequities for historically underrepresented youth.
