Yushuang comes from Taiwan and it is her sixth year at Penn State, pursuing a dual-title PhD degree in Developmental Psychology and Language Science. She works primarily with Dr. Janet van Hell on language acquisition and bilingualism, using electroencephalogram (EEG). For her master's thesis, she examined the association between novel word learning and the offline sleep consolidation. For her Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) project and ongoing dissertation research, Yushuang is interested in how adults and children process and comprehend accented speech in noise, and the underlying neural correlates. She also works with Dr. Kristin Buss in the Emotion Development Lab. In her free time, Yushuang enjoys cooking and meal preparation, board games, and spending time with her cat Watson!
