** PSYCH designations refer ONLY to courses offered Spring 2007 or later.
Requirements
To satisfy the requirements for the Psychology Minor, a student
must complete 18 credits in Psychology. These 18 credits MUST include
PSY 002/PSYCH 100, PSY 201W/PSYCH 301W (course designations
in italics refer to new designations effective Spring 2007 and not to
PSYCH courses offered prior to Spring 2007) and 12 credits of Psychology,
6 credits of which MUST be at the 400 level. These additional
12 credits are selected by the student and may be any Psychology course.
Nine of the 18 credits (including 3 credits at the 400 level) must be
completed at University Park. A letter grade of "C" or better must be
earned in all courses counted toward the minor. Courses without a Psychology
designation do not count toward the minor, even if they contain substantial
psychology content. Research experience (294/494), internship (295/495),
and independent study (296/496) courses do not count toward the minor.
In some cases, students who complete an appropriate methods course in their major may choose an additional Psychology course in lieu of PSY 201W/PSYCH 301W. As of July 2006, only the following methods courses are approved for this purpose: BBH 310W, COMM 404, COMM 420, HDFS 310M, HDFS 312W, and LIR 312.
Details and application procedure
The Psychology Department requires that students complete a psychology-specific application form, available here. The form is in PDF format - you can type in the information (except for signatures) and print the form, or print it and fill it in by hand. Students submitting the general University application for minor form will be asked to complete the psychology-specific form as well.
The application should be completed in full and signed by the student's MAJOR advisor. Once completed and signed, the student should bring the form to 111 Moore Building for review and processing. (The completed form indicates that the student understands the requirements. The student is not "bound" to the courses listed on the plan). Once the form is processed and approved, the student will be notified. Successful completion of the minor will be noted on the student's final transcript.
Students in the Psychology minor are not assigned a specific advisor in psychology, but are welcome to visit the Psychology Advising Center in 111 Moore Building for assistance concerning the minor.
