Becoming a Psychology (PSYBA or PSYBS) Major

REQUIREMENTS (before entering the major you must complete these requirements)

** PSYCH designations refer ONLY to courses offered Spring 2007 or later.

Basic requirements:

• 27.1 credits completed
• 2.0 grade point average overall
• 2.0 grade point average for courses attempted towards the major

Specific course requirements - The following courses completed (with a ‘C’ or better):

• PSY 002/ PSYCH 100
• STAT 200 or PSY 15/PSYCH 200
• additional 3 credits of GQ
• additional 3 credits of GS

PROCEDURES

Complete the on-line entrance to major process during spring of your sophomore year. You will use elion to confirm your major preference, and you will receive a computer-generated at the end of the process. If you are enrolled in the required classes at the time of evaluation, you will be admitted to the major conditionally. The condition will be that the currently scheduled courses are completed with acceptable grades. Once the semester is complete the acceptance will be complete.

Complete a paper form in the psychology department. You may call 814-865-9514 to schedule an appointment, or visit the web page http://psych.la.psu.edu/undergrad/advising.html to learn about walk in hours. Once you have met with a psychology advisor to review their application to the major, and the advisor has approved the change, you will return the form to the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Studies office to complete the change of major process.

Using these tools in cooperation with your current advisor should help you to prepare to enter the psychology major at the appropriate time.
