Research Interests
I am interested in the psychophysiology of the gastrointestinal (GI)
system in both normal subjects and in patients suffering from gastrointestinal
and eating disorders. During the past 30 years I have developed a non-invasive
technique for measuring gastric myoelectric activity, the electrogastrogram
or EGG, which enables me to study stomach activity during eating and during
various stress situations. Most of my research during the past 10 years
has been aimed at determining the physiological bases for motion sickness,
and more generally nausea. I am also studying the nausea that is frequently
provoked by chemotherapy.
